Circumhorizontal arcs are ordinarily strongly colored, so evidently
chemical impurities are not _necessary_ for strong coloration, but it may
be reasonable that they could cause it.
It seems like many of us could do with some hard facts on this
subject
from the literature. Can someone with access to the right journals
provide a summary for us?
