It’s better to be inside a punch hole cloud than just look at it. On the night of 17/18 November snow guns seeded a punch hole in low stratus cover at Mustavaara ski resort in Eastern Finland. Plate crystal dominated halo display appeared in the resulting diamond dust. Temperature on the ground was -9° C. In the image above, moon elevation is 32.7°.

I photographed the lamp halos after the moon disappeared behind thickening cloud.
SubKern and sub120 parhelia on lamp halos ok? And Lowitz on Moon display?
Man is that cool!!! I think I my jaw would drop seeing that. I know one thing those plates would have made exquisite superparhelia as well.
forgot to mention the first two pics show the zenith spot extremely well.
Marko is always at the right place at the right time. When you really put your mind on it all the effort pays off! Great capture once again!
Thanks folks. It was 10 hours halo hunting night. Yeah, there is subKern and (faint) sub120. I saw both with naked eye as well, though was not sure of the sub120. The Lowitz on the moon I don’t see.
