Eetu Saarti photographed this double ellipse in the new year’s night. The phenomenon lasted for 15 minutes and was followed immediately by 22° halo. Click the image to see a gallery with two more photos.

Great to see ellipse stuff again! Riikonen and I also made two quick observations of lunar ellipses during the night of 2-3 Jan. We did not manage to shoot any photographs as the ellipses only lasted for a minute if even that. Clearly, the weather conditions have been extremely favourable during the current cold weather.
