Nyrölä Observatory
Introduction:Nyrölä Observatory is one of the finest observatorion places in Finland. The nearest city, Jyväskylä is about 20 km away and sky above the observatory is dark and clear. It was build by Sirius ry during years 1997 - 1999 and all construction work were done by voluntary work. The main telescope is a 16 inch Meade LX200, one of the largest astronomical instruments in Finland and definitely the best among the instruments in use of the Finnish amateur astronomers. The service building contains computers, books and other equipments and also serves as a warming place for observers during Finland´s extreamly cold winter nights, some times the weather gets colder than -20 degrees Celsius. (No need to cool CCD...)
Unfortenately, the weather conditions in Finland are usually quite poor and in the worst months there are not one clear night. But always when it´s clear, a very active group of local
observers makes observations of particularly supernovaes, galaxies and other deepsky objects. Also minor planets are observed regulary: two previously unknown asteroids have been found in the observatory
