Those maybe the islands you are talking about.
The type of mirage you seen is when a distant
object is reflected off a layer of cold air that
lies above the warm air. Sometimes things like
mountains ships may be mistaked as a UFO or some
unknown sea creature. I have not see that type of
mirage but I have seen the type that looks like
water on the road on a hot day.
