Thanks Veikko and Harald for raising the issues of crepuscular ray
terminology. The Oxford dictionary gives crepuscular as deriving from
the Latin crepusculum for twilight. In that sense the term might be
better
restricted to true twilight rays which are relatively high in the
atmosphere
and cast by distant mountains or clouds.
What to call non twilight rays? As children we simply called them sun
rays
or sunbeams! Anyway, I look forward to more suggestions and
discussion.
