I've been quite busy and hadn't heard about any specific solar activity, but sure enough there was.

   See http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/spaceweather/ Your midnight would have been in the middle of the Kp peak. If you look at the movies of the sun, say, EIT 195, you'll see a big flash (level X2) at 1600 UTC on 11/07.

Spaceweather.com reports sightings as far south as Oklahoma and Alabama.

I wish I'd known... It was good timing for all of the US.

Maybe someone in Europe got some photos of Leonid meteors with an aurora.
