While everyone is awake -
During our Summer, February this year, I observed a bright rainbow
spectrum halo around the Sun and very close to it. I noticed it when I
was
driving near Black mountain in our city and the cliffs 100 metres up
obscured the Sun and I saw the halo. It was 2.00 pm the Sun was high in
the sky 60 - 70 degrees altitude.
I estimated (very roughly) that the halo had a diameter of 3 - 6 degrees.
Unfortunately, I had to go somewhere & didn't have my camera with me so I
didn't obtain a photograph. Does anybody know what this might be. Halos
are reasonably rare around here so you don't get to experience many
different types.
I'm looking forward to a six month stint working in Canada next year to
hopefully see some Aurorae and maybe a greater variety of halo phenomena.
Cheers
Joe Cali
